Frequently Asked Questions
*What do I need to do before I can drive a car on the road?
You cannot drive on the road without a Provisional Driving Licence. Take a look at the next question below on how to apply for your licence. Have a good read of the Highway Code and watch how family and friends drive as this could help prepare you for your driving lessons. As a learner driver you must display 'L plates in a conspicuous position on the front and rear of the vehicle you are driving.
If you want to practice your driving with another driver, they must be over the age of 21 year of age and must have held a driving driving licence for a car for at least 3 years. However it is unlikely that anyone execept an approved driving instructor would have the experience , knowledge and training to teach you properly, learning safe driving habits from the start will improve the safety of yourself and other road users (remember safe driving is for life).
*When can I apply for my Provisional Driving Licence?
The earliest you can apply for your provisional driving licence is up to three months before your 17th birthday. However the licence will only become valid on the day of your 17th birthday, so you will have to wait until then for your first driving lesson on the road. You can apply for your licence either on line at www.gov.uk or you can get a D1 form from the post office and fill it in and send to the DVLA.
*I've never driven before and I'm extremely nervous what will I be doing on my first lesson?
I understand that you will be nervous at driving for the first time, so to help you with this I will take you to a quite location with a few cars on the road. Then I will explain the controls of the car and allow you to get use to the car before driving on any major roads this is why it is better too book a 2 hour lesson so we can go through the cockpit drill and then get you driving.
*How long does it take to learn to drive?
The DSA say that most people pass their test the first time after having around 47 hours tuition with an instructor combined with 25 hours of private practice, although this is not set in stone as it will depend on each individual. The biggest mistake most learners make is taking their test too soon and failing. This is both demoralising and in the end cost's you more (in test fee's) and takes longer. I can help you decide when you are ready for your test.
*How much do lessons cost?
The cost of lessons are listed on my price's page. I offer a special offer for total beginners and also if you pay for 10 lessons in advance.
*Can you pick me up from Home, Work or Collage/School and can I be dropped off at a location of my choice?
Yes you can be picked up at the start of your lesson from a location of your choice and dropped off at the end of your lesson at a loction of your choice within the area I cover.
*Do I need to pass my theory test before I can start to drive?
There is no requirement for you to have passed your theory test before you start driving on the road. Although it is a good idea for you to start reading the Highway Code so that you can understand the rules of the road before you start driving. I can help you with any questions you may have and even help you with any theory work.
