Routines Used For Driving

As a driving instructor I will be banging on about routine's!! what routine are you going to use for this or that?. So why do we use routines 'simple' to keep thing's in order, so for example we don't turn into a junction and then look in our mirror's.

Before you can start to drive you will need to adjust the interior of the car so you can reach all of the controls and see clearly to the rear of the car. This routine is called the D S S S M or;

DOORS

SEAT

STEERING WHEEL

SEATBELT

MIRRORS

The next routine we use is to move away from the kerb this is called the POM routine;

PREPARE

OBSERVE

MOVE

Then we need to know how to stop the car near the kerb, this is called the M S M routine;

MIRROR

SIGNAL

MANOEUVRE

When you want to turn left or right, you then expand the MSM routine to the M S P S G L routine;

MIRROR

SIGNAL

POSITION

SPEED

GEAR

LOOK

When you approach a T junction you add the L A D A routine to the end of the MSPSGL routine;

LOOK

ASSESS

DECIDE

ACT

Using these routine's in your driving will help you to become a safer driver.
